Promote your Blog – 18 Ways to do it for Free

promote your blog

Anytime you create content on your blog, you want it to get seen. Do you ever write what you feel is an amazing blog post that everyone should read? Then it’s just crickets. No likes, comments, or shares or perhaps it’s very minimal.

It’s disappointing to see that happen, especially when you work so hard to create content. There’s no much point in investing your time and energy, and doing research for nothing in return.

The issue?

Not know how to properly promote your blog post. Writing them is one thing but you need to know how to get it seen by others and not just throw it out there.

Having a strategic approach will give your blog a better chance to be seen.

The 80/20 Rule

This is something nice seen used by many bloggers, the bigger and well known ones too. This means you spend 80% of your time promoting your blog and 20% creating new content for your blog. With spending all that time promoting your blog, you will want to know the best ways to promote it so it’s seen. More importantly, how can you streamline the promotion process to ensure that what you do will boost its traffic long term. Having a busy life means you’ll want something that’s easy that’ll keep the flow of traffic growing on your site.

18 Ways to Easily Grow your Blog

1. Write High-Quality Content Worth Sharing

This should go without say but if you aren’t producing content that people want to read then it’s not going to be seen. Content that is fantastic is much easier to promote than content that is mediocre.

Creating high quality content that people want to read makes it easier for them to share because they know others will want to read it too. When other people share your content, they are helping do some of the work for you!

2. Make your Posts Easy to Share

If someone reads your blog and they want to share it, you should make it easy for them. Use plugins to create icons that allow your readers to quickly and easily share them to social media sites.

A plug-in such as Sumo will display plugins down the side of your page which allowed that post to be shareable. Your blog will be shared if it’s easier for the reader to share it.

3. Tweet Multiple Times on the Day you Release New Content

Twitter is a great platform to use for promoting your blog. Tweets do move quickly so you’ll be wanting to share your content more than once or twice when you first release it.

The average lifespan of a tweet is 18 minutes. If you’re ideal reader doesn’t see it within that short time frame because they aren’t on, they won’t see it. They may see it though if you tweet it more than just once.

When tweeting about the same post, create different text to go with the post so you don’t post the same thing and look spammy.

4. Create 3-4 Tweets per Post and Loop them for Future Use

It’s definitely helpful to tweet your post once you publish it but it’ll be soon lost among other tweets.

You can use a tool such as SmarterQueue to help out. This tool helps to recycle old tweets by sharing them over and over again. It saves you time by doing the work for you.

It’ll allow old content to be refreshed and have traffic constantly driven back to your posts. This will prevent a surge of traffic on day one and then silence the rest of the time for that post.

5. Include some “Click to Tweet” Quotes

These quotes will make us simpler for your readers to tweet about your blog post. Doing so allows your readers to help do some of the work for you.

If you wrote a catchy and share-worthy phrase, letting your readers quickly tweet it will be beneficial. It’s your choice for how you want them displayed. Many bloggers have them with a border around them so they stand out more. Other bloggers will add (click to tweet this) at the end of the quote within the text.

6. Create Images for Social Media

We all know that social media is a visual place.

Posts with images typically get more clicks than those without. Research has shown that tweets with images are 34% more likely to get retweeted than those without an image. More retweets means more eyes on the content you create.

With that in mind, it’s a no brainer to include images with all of your social media posts. The important part is to make sure each image is the proper size for each platform.

7. Take Part in Facebook Group Promos

The promo threads on Facebook can really help your blog. Being part of blogger groups usually means daily or weekly promo threads. Be sure to follow the group rules when partaking in these. Always give more than you take on these groups. Check it the other blogs as well while you are there.

They come with the warning of you’ll see a spike in page views the day you partake in the thread. You’ll end up with many visiting your blog (maybe even commenting) to just fulfill the rules but never visit again except when you post on those threads. Don’t expect the page views to stay that consistent every day, even when you don’t participate in them.

8. Facebook Live in your Facebook Group

Lately I’ve been seeing more and more bloggers going live in their groups.

These can be quick sessions where you simply discuss the topic of your recent post. Don’t share all the information though so your viewers will go check out the full post. I’ve also seen bloggers do some Q&A videos. These are great as they get your audience to engage with you.

Remember to mention your post in your live session. Also link to the post you discussed in your video so they can quickly and easily check it out (add it to the comments section too).

9. Post on Instagram

If you’re someone with accounts on all the bigger social media platforms, might as well promote on them all.

You can get your posts noticed by using the right hashtags for what you niche is. Let your followers know where to find your latest post by having the link in your bio.

10. Promote your post using Instagram Stories

An Instagram story will work similar to the teaser videos on Facebook.

You don’t need to go live on your story, you can share a prerecorded video on your stories. These are good to help build the hype of your post. Again, don’t give it all away in the video because you want her to go read your post.

11. Create a YouTube video

Now that you’ve put in all the hard work, you can create a video with it all. The video will cover the same topic but gives you the potential to reach a new audience.

That’s the beauty of a video, same content but a new audience.

12. Pin to Pinterest

Once you hit publish be sure to share it to Pinterest to your blog’s Pinterest board. Manually pinning it to relevant boards (not group boards) is also beneficial.

You can make your content more pinnacle by using Canva to create fantastic looking pins. Fill the description with keywords to help more people find your pin and go to your blog.

13. Create Multiple Pins for each Post

After manually pinning the main image a few times, its best to create 2-3 more images for Pinterest. Pinning these over the next few days allows your potential audience to click on them. Having two or three pinnacle images can double or triple your chances of your post to keep circulating. If you make them look different (different layout, same branding) they will appeal to different people.

14. Pin to a Group Boards

Group boards are wonderful to get your pin seen by even more people.

These groups will allow you to get your post seen by many new people without having to have thousands of followers. Pinning to these group boards can be easy using Tailwind.

15. StumbleUpon

This method can be very hit or miss with driving traffic to your blog. It’s one that shouldn’t be overlooked though when trying to promote your blog for free.

The fastest and easiest way is to have a Stumble button on your social media sharing bar. Most have them (I use Sumo) you just have to make sure you click to enable that option.

This works better if you also share content that isn’t yours. If you read something you enjoy, share it on StumbleUpon as well.

16. Google+ Communities

Google+ is very similar to forums. It’s where a group of people get together and share information for particular topics.

Sharing to Google+ Communities is a good way for you to ensure your posts get shared to people who are interested in the same topic. This is a. Good way to share your content.

17. Add Links to your New Posts on your Older Posts

We’ve all gotten really good to adding links to our older posts in our new posts. Many of us though never go back to our older posts to link to our new content though.

This is missed opportunities for your readers to go to a newer blog to read that post. If you continually get views to older content you’ll definitely want links directing to your newer content as well.

18. Guest Posts

First posting for other bloggers and linking back to your blog where relevant is helpful. Always make sure the blogger you’re first posting for is okay with this.

Pitching to sites that are bigger than yours to guest post on will potentially help your blog gain new readers and allows you to maximise traffic to your post.

What are ways that have worked well for you to promote your blog? Did I miss any big ones that I should add to the list. Let me know in the comments below.
